ITALIANO:

Buona lettura!

ENGLISH:

What is Lamia Comics?

Lamia Comics is the label we created specifically for self-publishing our gothic-vampire comic series "Dàimones". It's a rebirth and a challenge, but most of all it's a free living space where the only rules are passion and creativity. So far, as comic authors for over ten years, we've had the chance to express ourselves trough graphic novels only, now we need to fulfill the desire to tell a longer story, to deepen characters' arc and to develop an articulate plot, with an episode-by-episode continuity. In sum, we need to fulfill our desire to create a whole universe. It's a huge commitment in terms of time, work and money, so we're not going to accept any compromises. That's why we chose the self-publishing formula, well aware that freedom has its costs: merits and demerits, earnings and losses... Everything is on us, that's true, but in the end we'll know for sure that our work we'll be exactly what we wanted it to be and that we'll give it to you, our readers, without filters.

Why the name Lamia

In Greco-Roman mythology the Lamia was associated with a multiform and ambiguous feminine principle, lunar and mysterious. She's deeply rooted in the archetype of the goddess in all her forms, both positive and negative depending on the sensibility of the time period, till she became the earthly personification of the unconventional woman: healer, witch, or even vampire.
The Lamia is often associated with the flight, a flight which is as silent and predatory as the one of the barn owl. The way we see it, his nocturnal flight can represent very well the metaphor of a dream, that claws and fascinates, as a good story does.
This archaic figure, whose name sounds so simple and fluid, embodies the very essence of our project.

The logo

In Sardinia we call the barn owl stria, from the word strix, which originated the words strega (that means witch in Italian) and strigoi (the word for vampire in Romanian). So it was natural to us to model the "m" of our logo into the unique features of the heart-shaped face of this wonderful nocturnal predator.

Behind Lamia Comics label there will only and always be you and us, our work and your reading, hoping we'll be able to transmit to you that very same passion that brings us so far and that will lead us from here on.

Enjoy your reading!
